Named after an obscure dEUS EP, this quintet from Amsterdam plays catchy indie-rock in the Urusei Yatsura vein. It¹s not surprising they name the Pixies as an influence, hearing the edgy guitars combined with catchy pop hooks. When I first played their debut 'Kowtow to an Idiot', I was somewhat taken aback by the overwhelming amount of quirky noises. Certainly, the opening track with its electronica was a bit over the top, but there's plenty of hooks and solid melodies to make your head bop along. They call their sound "Rammelnoise", and you can hear Sonic Youth-inspired guitar blasts, samples and pop hooks. And there's some humour as well. Who could resist their modest "I learned my English in the pitcoalmines" line? The standout track is a very airy popsong called 'Kiss & Disappear', which will be the perfect refreshment for the upcoming summerheat.
