The story about Feeder is a very sad one. They started in 1992 as an ambitious rock band. After a few years' hard work, they finally were on the verge of breaking through. In the year 2001, they released their third full-length album Echo Park. It was an instant success. They had a UK national top-5 single with 'Buck Rogers.' After that, they even grew bigger. They became huge in South Africa, where they recorded their stunning video for 'Seven Days In the Sun.' But the disaster struck. On January 7, 2002, Jon Lee, drummer of Feeder, committed suicide . . .
So what's a band to do when something like that happens? I think most other bands would have taken a break, or even would have ended their musical career. Feeder's lead singer and songwriter Grant Nicholas decided not to. During 2001, according to Grant, he had written some of his best songs ever. Feeder found a new drummer, former Skunk Anansie drummer Mark Richardson, and went back to the studio again. After six months, Comfort In Sound was ready.
Has all their work been worth the time? Yes, and even more than that. This is Feeder's best album ever. Some of the new songs remind one of their older work. You can find real new Feeder classics like 'Come Back Around' and title track 'Comfort In Sound.' But there is more variation on this album. You can find more hard rock like songs ('Helium' and 'Godzilla'), a song with some electronics in it ('Child In You'), and even an epic, string-laden song ('Forget About Tomorrow'). The spirit of Jon is still around on this album. In every song there is a reminder of the unlucky drummer. It is most significant on the new single 'Come Back Around.' After one small minute, Grant cries out: "Come back around / 'Cause I miss you around!" Grant made the right decision in carrying on with Feeder. They've struck back with their best album ever. Thank you Feeder.
