Why a review about a seven-minute-long single? Because it's fucking amazing! And I hope you don't mind the swearing, because The Libertines do the same. It's just the right band at the right moment. Punk celebrates its 25th birthday, and The Libertines sound like one of the best ones in this genre: Buzzcocks. And when you can come to the table with something completely addictive like the single What A Waster, nothing can go wrong. It's the summer hit of 2002, period. It's so good it makes you long for a full-length release. And if they can manage to keep up this quality, it will surely be the new Is This It. The single has a double A-side, by the way: They also spoil us with the raw I Get Along. "I get along just singing this song / People tell me I'm wrong / Fuck 'em." Who can blame him? And filthy punk rock on Mayday finishes the job. We want more.
