On the outskirts of rock, on the edge of white noise, The Horrors await. Guitarists Bones and Damn Easy and drummer Edward Scatters don't play rock, they deconstruct it. And they discovered that all that is needed to kick some serious ass is a monster riff, a drumbeat just like it sounded when the first humans started hitting things to make sounds, screaming and lots of feedback solos. When you got these ingredients you record them live in one take, so that it sounds as if the record was beamed straight out of hell on short wave radio, and you got a record with the impact of a full scale NATO bombing. The absolute best thing about this record are the guitar solos. These are solos the way solos are meant to be, full scale noise ejaculations that make Eric Clapton cry for his momma. Not that there's anything wrong with the other aspects of the record. Well, maybe the vocals could've used a lit more howl. Still, with killer tracks like 'Cold Blooded', 'Tragic Woman' and 'Back In The Cut', what's there to complain about? Tinnitus doesn't kill you.
