According to the press notes accompanying 'All Hands on the Bad One', Sleater-Kinney's fifth full-length album, the band are busy "taking to the stage and ready to fight the kid rock and the limp rock." Never ones to mince their words, this power-trio's new album provides a full-frontal assault to all things American Top 40 at the moment. Kid Rock? Korn? Limp Bizkit? One gets the feeling the three members - Corin Tucker (vocals/guitar), Carrie Brownstein (vocals/guitar), and Janet Weiss (vocals/drums) - look down in utter disdain and contempt at the comings and goings of present-day American frat-boy Jock Rock. 'All Hands on the Bad One' is short and extremely to-the-point, providing the listener with 13 tracks full of great riffs and power chords, accompanied all the while with a great deal of melodic intrigue and scorching vocals. There is even time for an erstwhile breather on 'Was It a Lie?' It¹s a fine art, being able to combine pure adrenaline power with memorable tunes. Sleater-Kinney are one of the few bands around who succeed.
