I can throw away those damned sleeping pills, because it has finally arrived.
Slapshot's new album is here. Well, it isn't really a new album, as you might
have guessed by you looking at the title. This one mainly consists of old
stuff. Since most of their old recordings are close to 20 years old, a
little re-recording couldn't do any harm. Modern technology really helped
this recording. This masterpiece sounds even more aggressive than when the
songs were first recorded back in the eighties/nineties. It contains all the
classics. Songs like 'Hang Up Your Boots', 'Olde Tyme Hardcore', 'Back On
The Map', 'No Friend Of Mine' and '16 Valve Hate' are on it. And the list
doesn't stop there, 'cause all the other 15 re-recorded old songs make you
wanna smash little puppies against the wall. Pure aggression, baby! There
are also two new songs on it. One of them is 'Crossover Sucks', which is
a formal complaint to, you might have guessed, nu-metal. When Choke spits
out those magic words: "Hiphop and hardcore, that's so fucking gay" it
almost brings a tear to my eye. Absolutely brilliant and politically incorrect!.
This CD isn't about some old guys cashing in on some success they
had a long time ago. Slapshot has always been one of the purest hardcore
bands around. They haven't changed a thing over all those years, which
earned them a great deal of respect from the hardcore scene worldwide. I
recently heard they will be coming to Europe in the summer for some gigs.
One thing is for sure, you'll find me front row!
