To me, Shellac is a machine which is built for one solid reason: to rock your ass! This is one giant rhythm machine, constructed by three main elements. There's this device that creates an incredible tight timing, which is called a Todd Trainer. The second part of the machine creates this rumbling low-end, which can be compared to an Intercity train or bulldozer. One calls this part the Bob Weston III. And then there's the element that made the machine well-known to most people, called the Steve Albini. It makes this extremely dark and aggresive noise. When the machine is turned on, one can be amazed by the synergy of these three elements. There are sparks all over the place when the aluminum parts get in contact. But the machine is so strongly bolted together that it's hard to adjust the machine to alter the end-product. All the albums it has produced over the years have the same unique sound and the same impact on me as a consumer. But hey, if it's not broke, why fix it?! The third album '1000 Hurts' can be seen as an update to the catalog of rock. Track one 'Prayer to God' simply blows you away, with Albini even attempting to use the vocals for singing purposes. People, I simply have to conclude that Shellac did it again! But what's up with that weird 'New Number Order' song? That's the only song that I don't really get and which annoys me a bit. Ah well, who cares?
