At one point, Tim Vanhamel was the guitar-wielding madman in the Evil Superstars, the Belgian equivalent of The Jesus Lizard. Then he suddenly appeared herky-jerky style on the stage with dEUS during their 'Ideal Crash' tour. For a long time it seemed as though singer Mauro Pawlowski was the only restless one in need to release more music after the break-up of the Evil Superstars, albeit in a much less frenetic way. Tim has proven that, not only does he still produce music, he has kept it funky and crazy. His new band Millionaire contain another ex-Evil Superstar, namely Dave (on drums), but also ex-Orange Black tinkerwhiz Aldo Struyf. The collage-styled cover already gives it away: The sound is trashy, humorous, and sexy. This is indierock, which steals from everywhere it sees fit. Just like The Stooges are on a sexy groove in the 'Funhouse', Millionaire use the bass to churn out heavy songs expressing their animal lust. Other influences are Funkadelic and Prince, which can be heard in 'Come With You' amongst others. But the chore is still indie rock'n'pop with white noise, samples, and distorted voices. From the sweet 'Me Crazy, You Jane' to the blistering 'Flame Me Up', 'Outside The Simian Flock' will surely bring the monkey out of you. Think a funky Brainiac, sans the arty intensions.
