Giving bands passing through Holland a couple of days studio time for a twenty to thirty minutes long EP sounds like a lofty cause, and De Konkurrent's basic idea is a sound one. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for June Of 44 or the Tortoise/The Ex collaboration: June Of 44's CD sounds like Anahata outtakes with too much noodling going on, the Tortoise/The Ex CD should have been called "The Ex, with Tortoise in a 50-mile radius" - The Ex's aural assault and jerky dynamics completely overpower the jazzier Tortoise. Good if you're a fan of The Ex, but Tortoise fans will be quite disappointed.
