After his previous 12" on F-Comm I predicted that my favorite Finn Jori Hulkkonen was one of the budding stars of the Nu-House universe and this follow-up will again re-enforce his status as one of the most promising newcomers in the gallery of deep-house greats. Again he serves a painstakingly produced and thoughtfully honed jewel that can easily compete with the marvels a genius like 16B has released upon our deep-lovin' souls in the last few year. Pure and undilated craftsmanship this is from a broad-minded house-producer whose symphonic spacier-than-spaciest-space introductions are always a mere preamble for deeply emotional and lush atmospheres that present themselves proudly as a possible Scandinavian alternative for the sparse but equally intense Detroit Techno sound. Just listen to 'Back when we was attached', the ideal soundtrack for an evening out with your old love: joy and sadness fighting for the upper hand in an intricate composition filled-in with melody lines that could make a song smith like Carl Craig jealous. Our Jori even puts the good old guitar to use to add occasional melancholic outbursts to an already multilayered composition. Awesome! Then take notice of 'Flash boy' that effortlessly meshes echoes of disco with ultra-fine dubby sounds, or lose yourself in the the sea of touching Presence-influenced vocals on the declaration of love that is 'Wanna do you'. Early october this guy releases a full album. If it's only half as good as the two preceding ep's then prepare your dull-and-numbed ears for a tidal wave of timeless enchantment and steaming sensuality. Brace yourself: Jori's coming!
