The latest effort by the Finnish maestro is another journey into the deepest shades of good techno and house. For starters there is the majestic 'We Are Rising Sun', a perfect opener, as it slowly envelops you in the sad and beautiful world of Jori Hulkkonen. Big strings announce 'You're My Excuse For Being Me', where a Carl Craig-style Detroit rhythm infusion gets mixed up with the man's typical deep trance sound. Detroit rears it head again on 'Four Seasons, Four Loves', when Mayday-synths get paired to the kind of rhythms Chicago's Guidance used to be famous for. 'Strangefaith' is pumping steadily, yet it's also more introspective in atmosphere and hints at the poppy side of New Order. 'All I See Is Shadows' is a vocal house track that looks over its shoulder to find indie-rock. 'Miniaturized' is a real synth dream with the typical Hulkkonen swelling build-up that eventually leads to even more ecstatic synth-blasts. The rework of 'Man From Solaris' has the highest level of 80s appeal of the tracks but eventually keeps its distance from blatant electro influences. The closing tracks get high on the percussion vibe. 'Abstract Living' merely toys with latin influences, while 'Latin Taiga' closes off the show in a Detroit latin disco disguise. Altogether, this is an album that succeeds in welding together the best elements of 15 fertile years of soulful house and techno from a man who still remains one of the new electronic masters. The sort of timeless beauty Larry Heard would be proud of.
