For those not acquainted with the Wizard's immense backcatalogue yet another Mills-compilation has been thrown on the market by an obscure Czech label. So people, warm your hearts with the ultra- essential floating 'Gamma player', lose yourselves in the dark and menacing Coil-like spheres of 'Utopia' or wear out your dancing shoes with kind aid of the harrowing 'Nepta', 'Cobolt' or 'Java'. And to please the ardent collectors the man's slipped in some unreleased tracks as well. 'Deckard', probably inspired by Ridley Scott's 'Blade Runner', -now I come to think of it: I'd like to hear Mills's soundtrack to that one- is a vortex-like assault on acquired technostandards, while the savage 'UFO' harks back to the days of the hardcore UR, the X-102 project or even the atomic impact of 'Step to enchantment'. And as if this were not enough he amazes us with 'Pacific state of mind', proving once and for all that Jeff Mills too can craft life-affirming housemusic with joyful piano's, strings and bells like no other. Keep on fueling our minds, Jeff!
