'Fevers and Mirrors' contains very good songs, but they all seem very different. The person behind the band is Conor Oberst, and he's the only constant factor in the band. Together with friends he had the luxury of spending over a month recording 'Fevers and Mirrors' onto 24-track at Dead Space Studios (owned and operated by Lullaby for the working class' Mogis brothers). The songs sound very intimate, and Oberst sings very passionately; he doesn't care if he misses some tones. And that isn't really inconvenient; you could compare it with Neutral Milk Hotel. Except on 'When the Curious Girl Realizes She Is Under Glass', when you really can't stand the singing/breathing. Bright Eyes also surprises with the choice of the filling up of the songs. For example, the first song starts with a spoken sample of one and a half minute and 'An Attempt to Tip the Scales' ends with an interview with the singer about things like the symbolism in the music and other things about 'Fevers and Mirrors'. A bit depressing and manic but very honest. A recommendation for those who appreciate bands of the Elephant 6 Label.
