An EP by Belle & Sebastian used to contain four songs, but to reach the charts they had to cut off one. They first did it with the 'Legal Man' EP, and now they do it to their sixth: 'Sing Jonathan David'. And once again every piece of it is a special present for the lovers of the perfect pop song. Starting with 'Jonathan David', introduced by some up-tempo piano tunes. The attuned choirs and the cheerful organ are veiling the sad theme about the sight of your big love falling into the arms of someone else. But that's the strength of a band that can make 'Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying' sound happy. Strings and a steel guitar dominate the slow ballad 'Take Your Carriage Bag And Shove It'. Believe me, really beautiful, but the EP finishes with a song a lot of fans have been waiting for. Belle & Sebastian played 'The Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner' live very often. And many were surprised that it wasn't on the last album 'Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant' (just like the intimate 'Lord Anthony', which we're still waiting for). But it was worth waiting for. It's the finishing touch of a new release of the band that can't seem to do anything wrong.
