Originally, Danko Jones was gonna bring their own support act for this European tour. A shame, 'cause Holland has never provided an appropriate opening act of its own for an international rock 'n' roll show like tonight's. But a few weeks before the DJ tour, there was a change of plans, and W2 put the Skidmarks on the bill. The Skidmarks take us back to the '50s with good, old-fashioned rock 'n' roll that was once considered to be a form of rebellion. Kind of funny, if you see how friendly this music sounds nowadays. There was nothing wrong with the songs or the looks. The band members all chose the right instruments, outfits, and sideburns. Still, there was something fishy about this show. As if the Skidmarks were covering themselves, or putting on an act.
Putting on an act is an art that is understood by Danko Jones much better. This band comes up, plays nothing but honest rock 'n' roll stuffed with catchy riffs, makes a dozen clichéd remarks in-between the songs, and still leaves you with the feeling you just saw something you've never seen before. This is definitely one of the most impressive "new" live bands of the past few years. If you don't mind a zero originality policy and still believe a band should consist of nothing but guitars, bass, and drums, go check 'em out. I could go on writing about the perfect atmosphere, the unanimous reaction from the audience, the many beers, but I won't. See for yourself!
