We arrived just as the opening act Enos begqn, and I have to say they surprised me a bit with their mixture of Kyuss, dEUS, and Barkmarket. No bass player in Enos, just two guitarists/singers and a drummer, and the bass player wasn't missed at all, since the guitars sounded very low at times. Good and promising band.
Celestial Season started today with an extensive Dutch club tour, to my knowledge their first real headlining tour. Starting off with 'Millenarian Drive', the closing song on their album 'Chrome', it was clear that their intentions were to slowly build up the tension into more massive-sounding songs, and with songs like the above-mentioned and 'Outshine' they have the perfect material to create an exciting atmosphere. One of the things that became clear were the dynamics in the songs: much more convincing and extreme than on the records. The quiet parts were more quiet, the poud parts were really LOUD and massive. Sometimes they sounded a little uneasy, but that is to be expected for a first gig on a tour. Overall it was a really tight band that was playing, and the only time they went wrong was during the beautiful 'All Wrong' - how ironic. As an encore they played an oldie,'Warp Speed to Vulcan', and that concluded a show that made a convincing, strong, yet not entirely satisfying impression. I've seen them in better shape before.
