who? A four piece glam-punk band called Rachel Stamp from England.
the story so far: How the band started is not really clear, but Rachel Stamp was formed by four guys. One of them chose Oasis over the glamourboys. Then Shaheena Dax joined them, singing and playing keyboards. She and frontman David Ryder-Prangley are responsible for the vocals on their debut album 'Hymns For Strange Children', which works out very nice. Their voices fit really well together; they both can sing pretty raw. A good example is the song 'Didn't I Break My Heart Over You' which beautifully sang by Shaheena in the beginning while David turns it into a real rocksong in the end. The lyrics on Rachel Stamp's album are both romantic and aggressive and have titles like 'Pink Skab' and 'I Got The Worm'.
why are they great? Rachel Stamp's music felt a bit strange when I first listened to their brand new album, because it almost seems like they are taking the piss out of you with their catchy rock songs. The songs are based on nothing but original guitar riffs and pretty simple, but a bit odd keyboard sounds. But when you start to know the songs by heart you will like RS more each time they come out of your speakers and before you know it, you are singing along with every single word on the album. Yes, I have to admit, Rachel Stamp got me too!
These guys (and girl!) really know how to make a glam/rock album!
This English 'Full-tilt Punk Rock Scum' are known in the UK to put on an excellent live show which seems to be real entertainment. Good rock music and lots 'n lots of make up, glitters and dresses. They've been touring with SOLD OUT-notes over their name on the bill lists of big venues in the UK.
so, what's next? Recent singles of Rachel Stamp are: 'I Wanna Be Your Doll', 'Spank' and 'Didn't I Break My Heart Over You'. Their debut is out on Cruisin' Music and is called 'Hymns For Strange Children' and the band is touring right now throughout England.
