who are they?
Mercury Pusher is: Xtian (pronounced Christian) Spencer on drums, Dan Corcoran on bass and
backing vocals, Gary Spencer on vocals and Vann "new guy" Geondeff on guitar.
what's the story so far?
Celebrating their two-year anniversary all year long, Mercury Pusher has had their current
or "permanent" lineup for nine months. Guitarist Vann was added last year after their other
player left in the middle of their first American tour. That is when the action started.
According to Xtian, "the ball dropped when we added Van." Since then the band has opened
for the likes of U.S. Maple and The Go, not to mention becoming one of the blossoming Dayton
scene¹s top bands. In addition, Mercury Pusher has its own label, Olive Records, which
released the band¹s first self-titled ep in 2000.
why are they so good?
In a word: ENERGY. Very rarely can a band convey such a powerful sound live and then do it
on a record, or vice versa. With a sound that is reminiscent of Raw Power era Stooges,
Mercury Pusher can be compared to such current rockers as the Murder City Devils and At
The Drive-In. They do it with a down and dirty, cut-to-the-chase approach that gives them a
style all their own. And all the while they rock your ass off with the kind of energy that
makes you suspect someone broke into the prozac cabinet.
what's next?
Mercury Pusher has big plans on the horizon. On March 24 they are slated to release their
first full-length album on Olive, entitled "Kiss This Goodbye". This album was produced in
part by fellow Daytonian and Swearing at Motorists member Dave Doughman. With a second national
tour planned for this summer the members of Mercury Pusher have a full plate, so catch'em
if you can.
