After he was kicked out of Incubus, DJ Lyfe joined forces with a new, upcoming band called Hydrovibe. The relationship between both bands is good. Singer Heather St. Marie of Hydrovibe explains: "Incubus and Hydrovibe have mutual respect for each others’ music. They (Incubus) said that they’re happy that DJ Lyfe is doing what is making him happy. There are no hard feelings and we hope to maybe do some shows with Incubus in the future. The whole separation has worked in both bands’ favor. Incubus’ new album will be incredible with their new DJ, DJ Killmore."
After DJ Lyfe joined Hydrovibe, he changed his stage name to DJ 1987 in order to make a new beginning. Heather: "He has entered a new phase in his life with a new band and a new sound. None of us discuss the past. We concentrate on Hydrovibe and our music."
So let’s talk about their music. Listening to Hydrovibe is like listening to Incubus, but with female vocals and keyboards. But it’s not fair to just typify Hydrovibe as an Incubus-clone. Hydrovibe offers you more. Their sound is fresh, they’re mixing different styles. Heather’s vocals vary from raps to singing. Hydrovibe has enough quality and potential to become as big as Incubus on their own, without always being compared to Incubus. Just listen to the audiofiles at their homepage www.hydrovibe.com, and you’ll be convinced.
An album will be released very soon. The working title is ‘Hydrophonic’. Besides recordings for their first full-length album, Hydrovibe recorded two songs on the US release of the debut-album of My Ruin, Tarrie B.’s first solo project (former singer of Manhole / Tura Satana). So prepare yourself for the invasion of ‘the Vibe’.
