WHO? Enon is John Schmersal on vocals, guitar and also uses other sounds. Then there's Rick Lee who plays guitar, double bass and uses his keys and found sounds. Last of all there's Steve Calhoon who does percussion. I guess Steve didn't find any other sounds.
WHAT'S THE STORY SO FAR?
After the demise of Brainiac, John Schmersal releases a solo-record under the name John Stuart Mill.
Not long after that, he forms Enon. Two singles are released. He moves to New York. Once there Rick Lee and Steve Calhoon of Skeleton Key join the band.
Some new songs are written. Barkmarket-member and Helmet-producer David Sardy is contacted. Not only does he produce, he also decides to release
their record on his SeeThru Broadcasting Company label.
WHY ARE THEY GREAT? Just like Beck, they fuse just about everything and get away with it. They play 20th century schizoid pop: electronica, sampling, hissing noises, synths and some hooks as well. It is pop after all. Think Brainiac or even Evil Superstars in their early days, but just a little bit more accessible and melodic. Running just over 30 minutes, "Believo!" might not be an instant classic but it will make you go jerkin' back 'n forth like Devo once did.
WHAT'S NEXT?Enon is on a cruscade to convert new victims. Check them out on tour with the Flaming Lips in September and October.
