To call a 70+ minutes album an e.p. is not only modest (and cheap, because this thing costs no more than £5), it also displays an obvious sense of humor. That same sense of humor is used as well in the packaging: a cardboard box with customs-stickers, a postcard which says 'greetings from Yellow6' and an added lollipop. Quite unexpected, because humor isn't the first thing that comes to mind while listening to Yellow6. Just like on 'Overtone', Yellow6's full-lenghth with less minutes than this e.p., the songs are long, psychedelic, instrumental, drony and atmospheric. A blend between ambient and postrock it was then, and that same blend it still is. This doesn't mean the album sounds the same. No, Yellow6 sounds a lot more focussed here. Although this is some sort of compilation of songs written and performed between 1998 and 2000, the songs fit together quite well, and they compliment each other as if they all came from one take. The six songs here are long (all between 10 and 20 minutes), and though it may seem like there isn't much happening, the state of mind after listening to Yellow6 is definitely different than before. It's all slow, quiet, and it floats by beautifully. In an other review from this e.p. the sound was described as an instrumental Sigur Ros, but the Yellow6 sound is somewhat less ethereal and less sweet. There's only one song that has a definite influence: 'Mojave' sounds like a spaced-out Mogwai without the loud parts. But still, the song is as least as great as the other five, maybe compositoric even better. And that's a promising aspect, since it is the most recent song on the album. If you're not searching for instant gratification, this addictive album is for you. And thanks for the lollipop.
