Ruff-Teck is without a doubt Holland's most extreme drum'n'bass record label. Run by the famous, Ruffneck, van Kerckhoven it has released four quality 12" until now. Unusual Incidents and Skinnah fill the fifth with both a completely different style. While Unusual Incidents makes compelling drum'n'bass with deep grumpy basslines and a strange atmospheric feel, Skinnah's drum'n'bass is faster, harder and more coarse. The compilation 'Analog Steriods' brings six new tracks by Ruff-Teck artists from three 12". Unusual Incident and Skinnah are also represented, just like labelboss Ruffneck who brings a grumpy techstepper. The best tracks are supplied by DJ Hidden who creates a real scaring sound in the rather slow rave'n'bass track 'Skektics', Predator who used a very strange piano sample in his fierce and scary 'Close Range' to make the disorientation complete (just listen to that terrific trancy synths) and Edge Harmonics'n Ancronix who are doing a maybe even stranger thing then they already did on their experimental 'Pass/Transfer' 12inch. 'Ambush' is coarse, compelling, has some really strange samples but remains modest. With a constant threat of losing total control. Which never happens. Together with the recent releases on Purified Audio and Acetate Recordings, 'Analog Steriods' shows that drum'n'bass in Holland is still up front.
