San Francisco seems to be the place to look these days when it comes to truly new and inventive deep house sounds. Plenty of new labels with a penchant for fusing experimental sounds - art-rock, jazz, and funk - with the new dance music from the 80s and 90s are risin' out of the fertile soil on the West Coast of the US. Panhandle Recordings have already put out releases by the likes of Freaks, Gemini, and the ubiquitous Rasoul adding to interesting debuts of new producers from Cali itself and are continuing their stance with this four-tracker by JT Donaldson - him again - and Lance DeSardi displaying quality deep house, so cool and relaxed that these tracks are not likely to get paced up with the devil himself on their tails. 'My Life is Out the Door' seems to be the title track 'cause we get it served in two - very good - mixes. 'Tribute With' gets more discoid on your ass, and 'Phlewis' Groove' round off this EP with a lazy, chilled-out bassgroove kind of thang. But on top of all this beautiful music there's the artwork, with comic-inspired and psychedelic drawings and colours. Good buy for any price, I would say.
