Portland's UHF has released their third full-length offering of melodic pop, entitled If It Was Easy. Produced by Gregg Williams (whose credits include the Dandy Warhols and Sheryl Crow), the album contains ten equally strong tracks of feelgood music, clearly influenced by the sound of seventies pychedelic pop. On the surface, all songs are immediately catchy and professional-sounding. But the fact that they don't sound very unique makes this a tough album to judge. The up-tempo tracks are a mix of Kinks mod sound and Byrds guitar pop. 'First Thing in the Morning' and melancholic end track 'These Footsteps' are obviously Beatlesque. The groovy opener 'She Don't Know,' as well as the spacey 'Last Rays of the Sun,' are the most original tracks. However, the overall lack of originality does disappoint; the comparisons with classic pop bands are simply too easy to make.
