Cologne's most prolific label has a reputation to defend when it comes to making excellent mix albums. The third one, after the brilliant albums by Tobias Thomas and Michael Mayer, is no exception. Friends is the first ever mix album by Cologne pioneer, co-label owner of Traum and Trapez, party organiser and Kompakt employee Richard Riley Reinhold. Triple R shows what Cologne sounds like at night: the air filled with moody minimal techno, deep sounds and subtle but firm beats. He presents lots of artists from his own labels, with Oxtongue, Broker/Dealer, Oliver Hacke and Jeff Samuel, but there's also input from Shitkatapult, Playhouse and of course Kompakt. The album starts off with a remix by Robag Wruhme of Metaboman's 'Easy Woman', a dreamy track with a sexy female voice and irrestibly funky percussion. Other great stuff comes from Ada (deep German techno), Luciano featuring Lea (mysterious lady rambles over minimal sounds), Broker/Dealer (Traum at its best) and Michael Mayer with his rework of 'Kind of Prayer' by the almost forgotten Psychic Warriors Ov Gaia. Triple R saves the best for last with the wonderful Superpitcher remix of DNTEL's 'This Is the Dream' and the sexy vocoders of Oxtongue. So nice!
