Thursday's new release has been released recently. This is their second full-length album after releasing
'Waiting' in 1998. The new album entitled 'Full Collapse' is full with melodic guitar riffs and drums. I
would call Thursday a band that creates a great sound of emo with some post-hardcore influences. Well,
what's the emo and what's the post-hardcore part of this band from New Jersey. The emotionally charged part
contains great guitar riffs played by Tom Keeley and Steve Pedulla supported by Tucker Rule on drums and
Tim Payne on bass. Next to this Geoff Rickly shows an extraordinary great voice with a lot of emo in it.
On the background you'll hear the post-hardcore voice. Great sharp screaming vocals. I think that's really
one of the best things Thursday did on this album. Without that voice 'Full Collapse' would be too soft. So
I have to say, "great job they did". One thing which isn't very clear to me is, who is doing that hardcore
voice? Thursday only have one lead singer and there is nothing mentioned about someone who is doing the
background vocals. Pretty weird. Anyway...
I just had this album for two days and it didn't leave my cd player after that. All songs, from the
beginning to the end (and that's 12 songs) are played and recorded very well and drag you into something
really strange. Unfortunately I did get the promo so I don't have the lyrics which means I can't talk about
what the songs are all about. What I could mention are some songs which belong to my favourites of this
album. There's one song called 'Cross Out The Eyes' which you also could d/load from the internet. Well, I
have to say if you already like this one you should definitely appreciate the whole album. The other songs
are much better than that one. Some of my favourites are 'I am The Killer', 'A Hole In The World' and 'Wind
Up'. Almost all songs start with some sort of a "soft acoustic" sound and after that they kick the
distortion and you'll get dragged into it.
There is only one small negative thing about 'Full Collapse'. If you already familiar with the emo/post-hardcore
sound you'll see Thursday doesn't have a sound that originally. If you're not and you want to know more
about this music you definitely listen to bands like; Brazen, My first step toward failure, Forstella Ford
and Alison Ranger (all at www.mp3.com).
In spite of the not so originally sound of Thursday, 'Full Collapse' is a fabulous album for the emo/post-hardcore
lover.
