Swedish band the Royal Beat Conspiracy debuted in 2000 with Gala Galore and the EP Shake What You Have Got. With those two releases the band presented a nice cocktail of soul, rock 'n' roll, blues, big band swing, and glam rock. On their newborn Dig It!, the ingredients are still there, but the cocktail is served in a smaller portion and with a stronger mixture. The album only takes 33 minutes of your time, and the pastiche of different '60s and '70s musical styles is less spread out and fragmented than on their first album. The "big band feeling" from their first recordings (with assistance of the Royal Horns) is almost gone, giving Dig It! a more focused and rock-'n'-roll-minded sound. But with the permanent addition of organ player Carl Stintzing, TRBC still holds its multi-layered and almost psychedelic sound. Also, the quotes and hints to the musical past — which made Shake What You Have Got and Gala Galore really fun to listen to and good material for music quizzes — are still there (for example, the ballad By Your Side and the up-tempo (No No No) I Can't Take It Anymore). Sometimes the lyrics are a little bit corny, but that doesn't make the music less interesting for lovers of the resurrection of vintage rock 'n' roll music.
