Mix eighty percent emo with twenty percent electronic keyboard tunes, and a Reunion Show is born. With its album cover and, of course, a title like Kill Your Television, I was expecting (and hoping) to get something more like a Hives clone. Damn!
Straight from Long Island, they started an originally new emo-punk revolution some years ago, in styles of Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World, Zea (Dutch band), and some old Foo Fighters material. After a demo EP named The Motion, they strike again with a full length, Kill Your Television, on the Victory label. To get an impression of what the Reunion Show sounds like, think of the latest American teenage high school movies, and you'll definitely know what I'm talking about. 'Kill Your Television' gives you plenty of opportunities to sing along about the most famous teenage subject "love," on songs like 'Stuck On You' and 'On A Scale Of One To Awesome (You're Pretty Great).' Fortunately, they are capable of presenting more than just sugary melodies, making the album more interesting. 'Oh . . . Is This A Full Moon (Again?)' and 'Drop It' are, therefore, a real must — but not enough to make the entire album worthy of your repeat button.
