The subtitle of Something Left To Sell is Live Crap: 1995 – 2001, which explains a lot. There are plenty of bootlegs with a much better sound quality than this official live-album from The Hangdogs. Something Left To Sell sounds as if these guys are playing in some kind of gigantic tin can in front of fifteen drunken cowboys. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the songs, but I would recommend The Hangdog’s debut release East Of Yesterday or Beware Of Dog as a second choice instead of this chaotic compilation of live songs. Something Left To Sell is save to listen to if you are a fan of The Hangdogs. At times, when you try hard to forget the low-key sound quality, The Hangdogs’ country-rock charm shines through in songs like She Took A Lot Of Pills and Monopoly On The Blues. Songs like One Woman Man and Rockin’ Little Billy are a lot fun live and when you are pissed, but it doesn’t make much sense on this disc. The Hangdogs are still one of the finest country rock bands around, but that doesn’t mean they can just burp into the microphone while doing their version of White Lighting!
