I can probably summarise this review by saying that this is the best punk/folk release of the year 2001. Even though I am fully aware that this is just the third week of January. The Dropkick Murphy's were formed in 1996 in Boston. They started playing in the basement of a friend's barbershop. Since that time they released over ten singles, one mini-CD, 3 full-length CD's and a split with the legendary The Business. Everyone who's a little involved in the punk/oi scene knows these guys. On the album 'Do or Die' they sounded very furious with a mixture of hardcore punk and a touch of folk. When Al Barr (ex- The Bruisers) joined them, they started sounding more rock 'n roll instead of the more punkier sound on 'Do or Die'. Broadly speaking, you can say this album is a logic step after the good album 'The gang's all here' The only difference between 'The gang's all here' and 'Sing Loud, Sing Proud' is that on this album de Irish folk influences have increased. Not that this is a bad thing! They have mixed the two styles brilliantly on their latest release. On this album there are 16 songs. They even recorded a cover from The Dubliners (The wild rover). There is only inferior part is that they also put 2 previously recorded tracks on this album. The song 'Caps and bottles' was already put on their mini-CD 'Boys on the docks' and the song 'The legend of Finn MacCumhail' was found on the single of 'The curse of a fallen soul'. You will probably think that this guy is starting to nag. So I'll stop my review with the conclusion that this is their best release yet. (By the way, this CD is so brilliant even my dad likes it).
