Released some time last year, but slipped from our attention back then. Listening to the music, that is not too hard to understand, since the music on 'Lubricate Your Living-room' isn't demanding your full attention. The Bionaut aka Jörg Burger aka lots of other names is a member of the German minimalist electronica scene, and on this album he compiled 18 of his hard-to-find tracks, released between 1993 and 1997. Somewhere between ambient, techno and minimalism is the place where The Bionaut finds it most comfortable to dwell, but due to that comfort things tend to get a bit too easy and forgettable. Not that the music isn't interesting, but the longer the the playingtime of the album progresses, the more your attention gets wandering off, in the direction of things more interesting than The Bionaut's music. Basically, the music lacks the tension to constantly grip you by the throat, and also lacks the necessary hypnotising and atmospheric qualities for letting your mind drift into a pleasant bliss. Furthermore, The Bionaut doesn't escape on the ever so fast developments in especially electronic music, with as a result that most of the songs sound fairly outdated. According to the Label's biography, The Bionaut is one of the most influential acts in today's minimalist electronica scene, but after listening to this album we sadly have to conclude that those influences are scarcely found in today's electronic music.
