Before Ed Mundell started doing lead guitar in Monster Magnet he was already playing in another band. He began jamming with Keith Ackerman and Chris Kosnik in 1992, calling themselves The Atomic Bitchwax. It would take 7 years before their self-titled album was finally released. This promising album made already clear the three guys have their very own thoughts of making rock music. Very groovy, psychedelic sometimes, and, most of all, very instrumental-minded. Music for musicians, I would almost say. With 'II', released only a year after their debut, The Atomic Bitchwax go on with the style as offered on their previous album. Most of the tracks are instrumental, and that creates room for many leads of all instruments, even drums and bass (extra compliments to drummer Keith, who is really torturing his drumkit). So if you're a guitar player, a drummer or a bass player and you want to improve you're technique, try to play after some tracks of this album. One remark left to make: although Chris is singing rarely, I must say his vocals are much better than on their previous album. I'm not quite sure yet if I like 'II' more than the debut, but it's certainly no worse.
