This is a split release by two (fairly) new electro / dance acts from the US on the also fairly new
Diffusion Records label. This label is specialized in
new electronic acts with a fresh and original sound.
Besides the two artists featured on this release they
have also signed Iris, an 80’s influenced synth pop
act. The 80’s influence can also be found traced in
the sound of the Low Technicians and The Alpha
Conspiracy.
The Low Technicians (see the review of their recent
single elsewhere on this site) make use of 80’s synth pop, electro (pop) and EBM roots in their electro sound. They mix an 80’s feeling with new electro
sounds, original rhythms and melancholy melodies.
Although The Alpha Conspiracy (see elsewhere on
this
site for a review of their debut album) also make use
of 80’s sounds, it is not always very evident in
their sound. They fuse electro with IDM and trip hop,
which results in a moody and melancholy mix. But,
the
music is never dark or gloomy and is very good
dancefloor material.
Both The Low Technicians and The Alpha conspiracy
contribute four tracks to this cd. The mix of their
music make up a good album. Best tracks by The
Low
Technicians are Spited You Ever Since and Call Me
Back, both smart programmed electro dance tracks
with
harsh beats but also with lots of atmosphere to them.
The best tracks by The Alpha Conspiracy on this
release are Subdivided and Zeno’s Paradox, which
uses
warm sounds and nice melodies to make up for
trippy
electro songs.
Overall this is an excellent introduction to these two
promising new acts and the new Diffusion label.
There
is more to expect from the people behind this in the
future!
