On the humorously - if you insist - titled album 'periods. make. sense.' American DJ and all-round sonic conspirator Sutekh (nee Seth Horvitz) offers eleven sketches that can - if you insist again (and the folks over at Force Inc. do) - be labelled "Minimal Techno". Meaning there's not a whole lot going on here (that's a good thing, mind you): some washed-out airplane drones, some Kompakt-esque rhythmic jittery - Mix these two elements together or leave them separated and... Voila, a nice set of tools for the so-called intelligent DJs among you. "periods. make. sense." being just that - a DJ toolkit - you'll find no fully self-contained pieces. From the get-go, it is obvious Sutekh/Horvitz intends for these tracks to be mixed in with something else, and as such he fails to instill a sense of direction and purpose. Considering the target audience, this makes perfect sense though, as does the lack of carefully structured hiss and rumble. The instrumentation (if you can call it that) is sparse enough to not interfere with any other drones you may have going concurrently. The net result then may not be terribly inspiring to those of you who peruse their electronica sitting on a couch in the comfort of the home, but it's perfectly suitable if you wish to experiment in layering sounds with the help of some turntables and a mixing desk.
