Despite the bandname and the fact that they are from France, the Superstar Disco Club doesn't make disco-house and has got nothing to do with bands like Air or Daft Punk or such. Instead they are the French Pavement/Urusei Yatsura/Idlewild. That's not a particularly bad thing in principle, because you can't have too much adventurous indieguitarrock in the world in my opinion, but sadly the Superstar Disco Club are a bit too chaotic. This album is a bit of a mess. There are at least a handful of great songs (for instance Lucky Day 51, Escale Borely and the acoustic Kaleïdoscope) but they are hidden between lots of superfluous, sometimes even annoying interludes that slow down things considerably. And I don't think anyone is particularly interested in a second version of the song The Abstract Fashion Crisis Day (there's nothing wrong with the original that we can find a couple of tracks earlier) or a shouty, anything but subtle punkrocksong called I Wanna Beer. We just want more of those pointy almost-perfect-popsongs, preferably sung by that female singer that has that sexy accent when she sings in English. Towards the end it all gets a bit longwinded, with some tracks that are probably meant to be psychedelic but lack any form of tension and just go on for too long. Mostly curious is the second track of the album Katia Goes Clubbing. I don't think anybody else has ever tried to sound like Underworld and Sonic Youth in one song. Pumping beats are mixed with schreeching guitars, resulting in without a doubt the most exciting, but maybe nog best, song available here. All in all it's a rather fickle album, but with enough highpoints to make in worth you while.
