Some namedropping: They're on the same lable Mogwai was for years, singer-guitarist Frances McKee played in the Vaselines (Nirvana played one of their songs on their 'Unplugged' album), and drummer Kenny McEwen played in the amazing Long Fin Killie (their singer now leads the project Bows). Does all of this make a good album? No. The songs are not interesting, Frances McKee has a very boring voice, the overall instrumentation lacks any originality (apart for the drums - Kenny McEwen is a great drummer). Sometimes a flute adds a pretty melancholic atmosphere, but it isn't enough to raise the level of quality. The songs get stuck in the indiepop/shoegazers mud, the used melodies are all heard before somewhere else, and those sleep-enhancing vocals are getting you, well, tired. One question remains: Why is Kenny McEwen in this at best mediocre band? In Long Fin Killie he provided some fantastic drumming, proving he could easily play live drum'n'bass rhythms (Listen to the Long Fin Killie album 'Amelia'). It's a pity he chose this band after Long Fin Killie split.
