A couple of years ago Streamer played at the first Heineken Music Crossover award festivals in the Netherlands. The song 'Blown Up' even was one of the best tracks on the festival compilation CD. More then three years later Streamer, reduced to the British musician Gary Shepperd (living in the Netherlands), is debuting with 'Blissed'. Although 'Blissed' is his piece of thought, Shepperd has been working together with Amsterdam-based Private Thoughts in Public Spaces, a performance art company whose influence on the album isn't all that clear. Fact is that 'Blissed' contains a blend of different music styles that range from hiphouse to trippy songs with a cinematic feel. Opener 'Vague Ass' for instance combines a driving bass, jazzy piano loop, smooth organic breaks, and a latin flavour, while 'My Baby' knows a strange kind of bluesy Manchester vibe. More challenging is the funny drum'n'bass like 'Manic Hispanic' or the energetic breakbeat track 'Blow Up'. The intense mixture of different styles like house, funk, trip-hop, filmmusic, latin, and breakbeat not only makes 'Blissed' interesting; it also makes the album complicated and a bit hard to listen to as a whole. Just consume Streamer's music in moderation.
