In the included biography they drop some names themselves for us lazy music journalists, and since we're indeed trying to be just that, here are a few examples they like to be compared with: Lou Barlow, Beastie Boys, JJ Cale, Duran Duran, Happy Mondays, and Ween. Would it annoy Starfighter from Gent in Belgium to say that I don't hear ANY of these influences in their music? I hope so, I am equally annoyed by the music. Above-mentioned bands and musicians all knew how to write a song before they transmitted it to the rest of the world, and if Starfighter (solo-project of Tim Brown, lead singer of the Shovels) wants to be compared to them in any way, he has to try to write at least one decent song before making an album. Now it's just an album without any good song, just some pathetic attempts at songs. A third-rate Blur comes to mind on 'Beautiful Machine', and I'm not able to give more compliments. Tim Brown doesn't come further than some cheap drum-machines, three-chord songs on a distorted guitar, and the obligatory acoustic campfire tracks. And no, he can't sing either. The biography also says Starfighter will play live in the near future and transform into a real band with bass, drums, and guitar. Don't say I didn't warn you.
