It's clear that dEUS changed the Belgian music scene completely. Not only was their Worst Case Scenario the start of a lot of bands releasing their own experimental pop album, but the members of dEUS also spread their wings and appeared in different bands, playing different roles. The Belgian music scene was blooming, and recent releases of Millionaire and Think Of One are proof that it isn't over yet. One of the members of the original scene is Rudy Trouvé, and he appears as the producer on the second Star Club West album. We can also hear him in the background on Audrey Blumenthal. To be honest and direct: Oh Dry Blue Menthol isn't really able to reach the heights of the bands mentioned before. And it's not because these aren't experimental songs with shift changes. On the contrary, that's not an argument to judge Nico Jacobs (vocals, guitar), who writes songs that sound like a mixture of Dutch bands Bettie Serveert and Scram C Baby. Opener Chamonix (with Dead Man Ray's Elko Blijweert on piano) even proves that the band have a certain amount of potential; it's just that the album lacks enough memorable parts. The songs pass you by, and you will surely appreciate them a lot, but nothing sticks to your brain. There is too much resemblance between the rockier parts and not enough excitement in the acoustic parts. In a time where you can't see the forest for the trees due to hundreds of weekly releases, average is just not good enough.
