I don't think this band needs any introduction. 'Primitive' is Max Cavalera's band's second album, the follow-up to 1998's self-titled debut. That debut was an album full of anger; rather logical, as Max went through the most difficult period of his life. He had just split with his former band Sepultura and had just lost his stepson Dana. You might think his anger has declined now. But that isn't true at all. Where the debut-album was rather angry, this album is angrier. Where the debut-album was spiritual, this album is more spiritual. Just have a listen to songs like 'Back to the primitive', 'Son Song', 'Soulfly 2' or 'Terrorist'. Again, there are a lot of guest appearances on the album; Chino Moreno of Deftones, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Grady Avenell of Will Haven and Tom Araya of Slayer, to mention a few. But the most striking guest appearance is Sean Lennon on the spiritually 'Son Song'. His 'duet' with Max is one of the highlights of the album. An album full of extremities. Compliments, Max!
