For those who missed his previous record Knock Knock, here is another chance to be seduced by the gutwrenching songs of Bill Callahan. Releasing records under the name Smog, Bill Callahan is one of the forerunners of sadcore, together with Catpower and Elliott Smith. Just like Knock Knock, the beauty of Dongs Of Sevotion unfolds itself with each repeated play. From the opening track 'Justice Aversion' with its eletronic beat and weeping guitar, you know Bill Callahan hasn't seen the sunshine yet. The lyrics are again deeply emotional, focusing on his relationships. Just check out 'Dress Sexy On My Funeral'. Optimistic he is certainly not. Most of the songs are slowpaced but there are exceptions. Like the wonderful 'Bloodflow' with the drum and guitar resembling... yes, the flowing of blood through the veins. If darkness is the colour of your weeping heart, then 'Dongs Of Sevotion' will be the perfect partner.
