Another nu-metalband, you might think. But don't judge this band by the style they're playing. As Skrape definitely is a welcome addition to the nu-metal scene. On their debut-album for RCA, called 'New Killer America', Skrape aren't playing the 'usual' rap-metal type of thing. On the contrary, 'New Killer America' turns out to be a heavy modern metal album, with a 'grungy' feel to it. The album opens with 'What you say', a song which combines heavy riffs with nice melodies. It's a style that is continued through the rest of the songs, with 'Isolated' (one of the best songs of 2001!) and 'I know' as highlights. The vocals of singer Billy Keeton sometimes remind me of Filter's Richard Patrick (which is a compliment!). Singing isn't something totally strange for him. But it's also the music (bass) that sometimes reminds me of (early) Filter. Keyboards, played by guitarist Brian Milner complete the sound of Skrape. 'New Killer America' proves that Skrape consists of some talented songwriters and musicians. You just have to listen for yourself to discover all the things Skrape has to offer. I think 'New Killer America' is just a killer nu-metal album for any self-respecting nu-metal freak, who likes broadening his horizon. On tour now with Slayer!
