Imagine a large music conference. Imagine the trade floor. Imagine three good-looking guys in their 20s (Martijn, Bas, Manuel) standing at the KM booth and the KM godfather with the KM web design artist (Niels and Lonneke) standing in front of that same booth. Imagine a good looking girl in her 20s walking up to that very same booth and starting to chat with the guys at the booth. Imagine her promoting her very own EP, just released and ready to be reviewed by us. Imagine her saying it's kinda jazzy. Imagine Martijn and Manuel looking at Bas: "This is the kinda muzik you like, Bas." Imagine Bas being happy with his latest capture. Imagine that Bas is gonna write a nice review. And then, all of a sudden, the whole scene changes: It turns out Lonneke and Niels have been talking to another female. A little older than the kindajazzygirl. Imagine her looking a little cheesy. Imagine she has just a released an EP as well. Imagine Niels not knowing what to do (Niels is now surrounded by two girls that are both way taller than he is.). Imagine Simaku ('cause that's her name) handing over her record to Niels. Imagine Niels doubting: "Should I tell her this is probably not the kinda muzik we like?" Niels hesitates. He hesitates a minute too long. Simaku leaves by saying she's looking forward to the review. Imagine Niels not hesitating anymore. Imagine Niels saying to Manuel: "She looks like a porn queen. This seems like the kinda muzik you like." Imagine Niels handing over Simaku's record and a press release. Imagine Manuel thinking: "Why me?" Imagine Manuel checking out the press release. Imagine Manuel thinking: "She does NOT look like a porn queen." Then again, the scene changes: Imagine Manuel writing the Simaku review on a Sunday afternoon. Imagine Manuel reading that Simaku, born a native of Albania, has been performing since the age of six, that Simaku has been doing dozens, if not hundreds, of shows, mostly in Southeast Europe, that Simaku was not satisfied by this. Then imagine Manuel listening to the Simaku EP. Imagine him being surprised when hearing the first tones of the record (the intro of 'Shine'). These tones are sultry and swampy and have a slighty jazzy feel. Imagine Manuel deciding this record is produced in a very professional way, but deciding the music lacks something. Good lyrics, for instance. It does not lack a distinct sound. Although Simaku is unmistakenly a pop artist, Manuel decides that the bio is right when stating that Simaku "has been crafting powerful anthems that are a mixture of world, electronica, and eastern-European folk." (Manuel only skipped the word "alternative".). Then the scene again changes drastically one more time: 'Grass Is Greener (On The Other Side)' begins nicely, dreamily and (again) swampy and sultry, but has an amazingly cheap chorus. Then imagine the next song ('Come2Me') being just as simple. Then imagine Manuel deciding this is not the kinda muzik he likes, but it ain't the kinda muzik he dislikes either. Then imagine him imagining there would certainly be a niche for Simaku.
