'Short-Staffed At The Gene Pool' is the long awaited second album of Lesly Rankine, ex Silverfish singer, who debuted as Ruby in 1996 with the promising album 'Salt Pepper'. After travelling around the USA (Seattle and New Orleans) she moved back to Scotland and found a new label to put her music out. After five years Ruby still sounds exciting. This time with the help of Mark Walk (Pigface) who gives the smooth whispering voice of Lesly a groovy dance sound. Resulting in eleven edgy alternative popsongs with whipped up beats that reminds you of a Hybrid remix from Garbage. Sometimes the result is a bit too tame. Like the slow 'Lilypad'. But mostly Ruby sings with the intensity of her Silverfish days. Just listen to her sexy Scottish accent in 'Queen Of Denial' or the hectic breaks who follow her jazzy voice in 'Roses'. With 'Short-Staffed At The Gene Pool' Ruby is, after a long period of silence, better than ever. Also look out for the remix album with contributions of Mekon, Schneider TM, Solex, Kid 606 and Max Tundra amongst others. Want to do a remix yourself? Just visit Ruby's website to download new and old versions of her songs.
