How the hell does he do it? Rob Hood owns four labels -Hardwax, M-Plant, Drama and Duet- and he hasn't released one single record that does not contain at least one brilliant track (most of the time they're simply all brilliant, mind you). And this third chapter in the Red Passion series will not be the end of this unlikely story. Again he overwhelms us with four untitled technostandards that should leave his peers trembling in awe. Like those other perfectionists Octave One his understated style is known and hardly ever changes a bit, which boils down to the fact that it always stays equally powerful, timeless and beautiful. As the proclaimed champion of Detroit minimalism his formula of minimal organ and violin sounds laid over minimally shifting austere rhythm structures that grow intenser until a simple hi-hat or cymbal grips you in a tight dancing fit, he just can't do anything wrong. Suffice to say that this episode in the great Book of Minimalism is no exception. Four tracks, four times jackpot. This man makes more good records in one week than others in an entire career. Long live the reign of the minimal nation!
