French wonderkid Rob was present on the cheered 'Source Rocks' compilation with a very peculiar but interesting song. Just like his debut album 'Don't kill' is at least a bit strange. First of all Rob played all instruments himself and there aren't any computers on the album. Rob wanted to make an album that combines art and music. Poetry and melody. And well, the result is not similar to that of other Source acts.. Sometimes Rob, who used to play funk and rock, is trying to sound like seventies progressive rock or adds layers of synthesisers to his acoustic material. But in other moments he sounds like Serge Gainsbourg experimenting with eastern instruments. That gives his music something mystical but also brings him to the edge of muzak. 'Don't Kill' is a nostalgic trip full of fast-food pop music that is being served on an atmospheric plate. An interesting concept, but Rob's result isn't convincing enough. Too tedious, too boring. A pitty because Rob is capable of doing interesting things.
