Ro-Robot's first cassette won the infamous Demo of the Month award in Opscene magazine. Reviewers Frau Dunkelfahrt and Herr vonder Herrlich have never been wrong, which was confirmed with Ro-Robot's mini-CD Land. Four years later, there is Panorama, their first full-length album. No idea why it took so long, but that doesn't matter much: Panorama comes exactly at the right time. With the US having the Strokes and the UK having Ikara Colt, the Netherlands has Ro-Robot, a band taking its roots from Buzzcocks, Joy Division, and the Sound. Panorama even has the lofi production sound from the beginning of the Eighties, making the music even more (post-) punk, maybe even more than post-punk itself. Panorama sounds like Buzzcocks and Joy Division jamming together, mixing the coldness and abstract sound of Joy Division with the energy and directness of Buzzcocks. All this in moments bathed in the melodies of the Sound. And - although far from original - it works. Ro-Robot sound fresh. Sound full of energy. Sound greedy. And - perhaps more relevant - are much more exciting than the Strokes.
