For all of you who don't know the River City Rebels: they make music in the vein of old Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but do it with a little more street-attitude. I was thrilled to hear the new River City Rebels CD was in stores. Their 1st one called 'Racism, Religion And War' is in my opinion one of the best ska-core/punk records ever. It started with the intro 'The Bend Before The Break' and I was still waiting for a kick-ass voice of singer who sings like he has been drinking and smoking for over fifty years or so. But when the second song 'Day To Day' started I found out that they had a new singer. I skipped from song to song to find the voice of their old singer, Ward Aimi, but it wasn't there. Being a bit disappointed I stopped the CD-player, took the CD out and didn't listen to it for quite a while. But I had to do this review, so I had to listen to it and after two or three times I found out that this is a superb record as well. There's only one weaker song on this record, 'Friday's Salvation', but the rest are all very good. I had to get used to the voice of the new singer, Dan McCool, but he is excellent. He has a voice which sounds quite similar to the singer of Throwaway Generation and sometimes a little like Al Barr from Dropkick Murphy's. I especially like the songs 'Gotta Get It', 'Small Town Pride' and '22 Years'. The only weaker song of their first record was the last one, but on this second record the last song, 'What's In A Dream', is very good. Perhaps you'll have to listen to this new record a little more before you'll like it, but I'm sure that if you like their first one you'll love this one too. It's a little slower and less aggressive than 'Racism, Religion And War'. There are 13 songs and an intro on this thirty something minute record. Victory records did a great job getting these youngsters on their label. I think they're going to be just as big as Victory's other ska-core band Catch 22!
