For all the hardcore and punk freaks, two more weeks to go for the release date of 'Friends, Lies, And The End Of The World'. That's the title of the new album of the Boston, Massachusetts's maniacs Reach The Sky. A new full-length album on the Victory label with straight melodies. They already released 'So Far From Home' and 'Everybody's Hero' with a lot of slamdancing tracks. The new album shows some differences with the previous ones. Reach the Sky made great improvements on their music in some ways to me. It sounds clearer and a bit less aggressive as they used to be. But that doesn't make 'Friends, Lies, And The End Of The World' an album less interesting. Lead singer Ian did get a more melodic voice compared to the other releases. Nevertheless they're still one of the best punk hardcore bands I had ever heard of. Let's talk about the noize they recorded on this album. It contains 12 tracks with an overall time of 32 minutes. Long enough to take you back to the roots of your first hardcore experience. I mention this because Reach The Sky reminds me a bit of 59 Times The Pain (that was my first live experience a long time ago) and after that I was introduced to bands like this and many, many more. The first song on the album called 'Let us be damned' already gives me spasms of my hardcore feelings. Also 'The Truth So Familiar' which starts with a cool slow intro and after that it smashes all strings of the instruments. Almost all songs, if it isn't all of them, are about a person who is named you. This 'you' could be David Kinosian or Daniel Edge because 'Friends, Lies, And The End Of The World' is dedicated to the memory of these two. I bet they had a great impact on the members of Reach The Sky. Maybe because of this the album takes you straight by the heart. But as a matter of fact these are all my words. In the beginning you would expect something like the old stuff of Reach The Sky but just give it a shot and this album will reach your heart.
