It sure has taken him a while to come up with it but here it is: Ian Pooley's own Transmat. And from the first notes you know this is going to be be an essential ode to the Motor City from a man who finally seems to be reaching his artistic zenith. This must-have 4-tracker kicks off with the whirling and meandering Detroit delights of 'November', that's light as a feather with plenty of warm synthlines and strings painted over the floating surface. The melancholic side of beauty is displayed via the early Carl Craig style offbeat experiments of 'Being Quiet', a track so wistful that it seems like Craig's Psyche classics 'Andromeda' and 'Neurotic Behaviour' have been forced to live under one elegiac roof. The pace goes up with the whirring and swelling tribal minimalism of the complexely structured yet ecstatically climaxing 'Coming Full Circle' and shortly after goes down again to end this perfect ep with the glorious splendour of 'The Scenic Route', an ambient epic with references to Derrick and Juan. The conclusion can only be that the prolific Frankfurter has produced a masterpiece that proudly continues the intimidating gallery of Transmat heroes. I drink to that.
